So a 10-year-old kid shoots a man down with back-to-back bullets. A gangster commits a series of crimes and justifies them in the name of patriotism. An adult girl responds to her non-existing Facebook friend whom she has never met, and flies to Dublin to perform in another non-existing ‘India Day’. A convict from a prison in Ireland escapes to India and lives happily ever after. Another prisoner advices on how to run away from jail, and also charges for it. Wondering what’s going on? We are talking about singer turned actor Himesh Reshammiya’s latest venture ‘Teraa Surroor’ which hit the screens today.
Raghu (Himesh Reshammiya) starts committing crime at a very tender age when he murders a man and earns enough money to treat his ailing mother. However he is caught and spends years in a juvenile jail. Once free, he joins the police to commit the crime that can’t be executed officially by the government and the police. He meets Tara (newcomer Farah Karimaee) and falls in love; however, he only introduces himself to Tara as a car dealer and not as a gangster. Meanwhile, Tara travels to Dublin where she is trapped and arrested on a false charge of carrying drugs. Raghu immediately flies there and meets Santino (Naseeruddin Shah) who is a ‘pro’ in escaping from jails and has done that 14 times in his lifetime. Raghu swears to kill the man behind the conspiracy and return to India with Tara. If this interests you, watch the film to know the climax.
The very beginning of the film with excessively loud background scores and bad visuals itself is a turn-off. Be it in moments of anger, sorrow, guilt or romance, Himesh Reshammiya carries the same depressed face throughout.
Reshammiya surely isn’t out of his own creations. His past blockbuster song ‘Teraa Surroor’ occupies most of the background music, which is not only melodramatic but is also gets irritating at times. Those loud tunes fail to evoke any thrill in us. Numerous loopholes in the story are a major drawback. The script is loosely bound.
Karimaee’s decision to make her debut with this was a great one. The script has given her very little to act, but she has utilised it well.
Here are the only few cool parts. Songs aren’t bad and we especially liked ‘Main Woh Chand’. Naseeruddin Shah is a treat anytime, even if rest of the film flunks. The side actors, which includes Shekhar Kapoor, are rather better than the lead ones.
Give ‘Teraa Surroor’ a watch only if you have nothing else to do this weekend!
