Which was the last horror comedy you have seen in Bollywood? If you cannot recollect, then this could easily be added to the almost negligible list of horror comedies. Well, ‘Tutak Tutak Tutiya‘ helmed by a South director Vijay is a laugh riot with a tinge of horror. This movie which was shot in three languages does take its inspiration from the South, but with Sonu Sood as the producer, the movie did have it’s Bollywood element in place. So here’s how the plot pans out.
Krishna (Prabhudheva) is an executive working in Mumbai who is 34-year-old and unmarried. He aspires to marry a beautiful, charming and urban girl, but unfortunately gets married to a village belle Devi (Tamannaah Bhatia) in Coimbatore due to family pressure . After marriage, Krishna comes back to Mumbai with his wife who is extremely shy and sweet. He is ashamed to let the world know that Devi is his wife and doesn’t reveal to his office peers about his marriage. Soon, he discovers that the rented flat they have been staying in is haunted and the ghost named Ruby has possessed his wife’s body and she starts behaving like an actress. Enter Raj Khanna (Sonu Sood), a superstar, who falls over her beauty and dance skills and offers her a role in his movie. This culminates in a love triangle which was expected. How does Krishna tackle this funny yet tense situation and how he manages to shoo away the ghost from his wife’s body is what forms the crux of the story. Quite predictable, isn’t it?
Talking about performances, Prabhudheva is not an actor, but a dancer and he has ample scope to showcase his superlative dancing skills. But, he tries his best to act funnily and somewhat manages, if not completely. Tamannaah Bhatia is indeed charming and beautiful and she holds her dual act well. Sonu Sood is a charmer and he hasn’t really created an impact with his average performance. Just to add a bit more glamour, we had special appearances by two hotties Amy Jackson and Esha Gupta. Also, choreographer-director-actor Farah Khan had a miniscule scene.
The musical score by Sajid-Wajid is groovy and upbeat. Dialogues are well-writen with good comic timing. Overall, the movie is a good entertainer for the weekend, but it fails due to the predictable story-line. By interval, you can easily predict the second half. But, the second half is slightly better than the first half and that keeps you glued to your seat right till the end. Watch it for a fun time over the weekend, but do not expect superb performances and out of the box concept.
