The first weekend box office business of ‘Newton’, ‘Bhoomi’ and ‘Haseena Parkar’ has turned out to be a surprising one. Sanjay Dutt’s comeback movie ‘Bhoomi’ and Shraddha Kapoor’s movie ‘Haseena Parkar’ had a good amount of promotions as compared to Rajkummar Rao-starrer ‘Newton’ prior to the release date. So naturally, the opening day business of these movies came out better than that of ‘Newton’. However, tables turned on the second day as ‘Newton’ did an amazing business crossing the second day numbers of both ‘Bhoomi’ and ‘Haseena Parkar’.
Now, the Sunday numbers are out and ‘Newton’ has fared even better than Saturday by doing a business of Rs 3.50 crore nett which takes its three day business to Rs 6.90 crore nett which is just amazing. The movie got a boost majorly after the news of it being selected to the Oscars spread like wildfire. It got extra screens over the weekend as the other two movies didn’t fare as good as one would have expected. (Also Read: Newton movie review: Exposes the farce of democracy, hits you hard)
The business of ‘Bhoomi’ on a Sunday is slightly more than its Saturday business. The film earned Rs 2.50 crore nett on Sunday taking its total three day business to Rs 6.71 crore nett. The collections of ‘Bhoomi’ have turned out to be a disappointment. In fact, the movie has fared even badly than ‘Department’ which had released some five years ago and had Sanjay Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan in it. Now talking of ‘Haseena Parkar’, it is even poor as it fetched Rs 1.45 crore nett on Sunday taking its three day business to Rs 4.22 crore nett.
So clearly, ‘Newton’ has emerged to be the winner as it has raced ahead of ‘Bhoomi’ and ‘Haseena Parkar’ very conveniently.
