Yesterday, seven new movies made it to the big screen along with re-release of ‘Baahubali‘. The wide re-release of ‘Baahubali’ did a business of Rs 40-50 lakhs nett on the first day and that’s more than the money made by new releases, but not too high. However, that doesn’t affect ‘Baahubali 2’ which will be releasing on April 28, 2017 as it is a highly-awaited movie of this year. Re-runs used to do a good business in early nineties, but post 1994 when the prices of tickets took a hike, the audience didn’t really take interest in watching re-runs in theatres except for movies like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ and ‘Gadar – Ek Prem Katha’. In fact, many shows of ‘Baahubali’ had to be cancelled due to lack of audience. Although, the movie did much better than all the other new releases.
There were total seven new movies that released yesterday namely ‘Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana’, ‘Mirza Juuliet’, ‘Mukti Bhawan’, ‘Blue Mountains’, ‘Baazi Zindagi Ki’, ‘Kehkashan’ and ‘Mahami Rah Babi Ki’.
Among the seven releases, only ‘Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana’ and ‘Mirza Juuliet’ managed to earn a little more than Rs 10 lakhs nett on day 1. The weekend should fetch around Rs 15-20 lakh for these movies. But, this weekend is going to be the most disappointing one in terms of box office numbers as none of the movies managed to do good business.
