Sujoy Ghosh’s suspense drama ‘Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh’ hit the screens yesterday. The movie starring Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal did not receive a great response at the box office on the first day of its release. The movie raked in around Rs 4.25 crore nett at the box office. The first day collections are lower than Vidya Balan’s previous movies like ‘Ghanchakkar’ and ‘Humari Adhuri Kahaani’, but more than the first instalment ‘Kahaani’ that released 4 years ago.
The critics have lauded the movie and the performances, so we can expect the positive word-of-mouth to lift the collections over the weekend. ‘Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh’ was a solo release and so the numbers could have been better. The second instalments of movies like ‘Rock On’ and ‘Force’ also didn’t garner much at the box office.
Another factor could be the demonetisation that has still kept moviegoers away from cinema halls. The movie really needs to rake in high numbers on Saturday and Sunday to come up with decent collections.
