When someone says the word ‘raabta’, first thing that comes to our mind is the song from ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Kuch Toh Hai Tujhse Raabta’. Well, Dinesh Vijan, who was one of the producers of the film, decided to make his directorial debut with a film titled ‘Raabta’. The word ‘raabta’ means connection, and when you make a romantic flick the most important thing is that it should connect with the audiences. So, does the film connect with us or not? Check out in our ‘Raabta’ movie review…
Shiv (Sushant Singh Rajput) and Saira (Kriti Sanon), meet in Budapest and feel a special connection with each other. They start dating and fall in love. Shiv proposes Saira for marriage, but what if this ‘happily ever after becomes a happily never after’. So, they decide to see if they find the same connection with some other person. Enter Zack (Jim Sarbh, actually the hottie Jim Sarbh), he is the man Saira always wanted to be with, but her heart is now with Shiv. Well, Zack has come into the life of Saira and Shiv for something, and that’s the twist here. Check out for Jim’s expression at the interval point. Gosh! Too good.
The movie is written by Siddharth-Garima, and finally, we know that it is not a remake of ‘Magadheera’. Reincarnation is the backdrop of the film, but the storylines of both the films are quite different. Siddharth-Garima’s script is quite good, a love story that will surely attract the youth. But, the screenplay is a bit dragged. The sequences are too long. After a point even the fantastic chemistry of Sushant and Kriti starts losing its charm because of the stretched sequences. The movie could have easily been shorter, which the makers opted not to do. Dinesh Vijan’s narration in the first half is up to the mark. But then it starts falling in second half, especially the sequences which go back in time. The flashback portions of the film should have been the highlight, but here that doesn’t happen. However, once the movie is back in real-time, you will start enjoying it.
In a romantic flick, the most important thing is the chemistry, and that’s perfect out here. Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s onscreen chemistry is sparkling (Are they actually dating in real-life? #JustWondering). The two look damn good together on the big screen and make us believe in the characters of Saira and Shiv. Talking about performances, Kriti Sanon shines in this one. This movie gives her a chance to act and she comes out as a great performer. Sushant as Shiv is excellent. The lover boy role suits him, but as soon as he turns Jilan, he disappoints. Jim Sarbh is good in his role, but we had more expectations. Varun Sharma is a talented actor, but unfortunately Dinesh Vijan has wasted him in the movie. He doesn’t get a good scope apart from one or two comedy scenes here and there. In the climax, the makers tried to give him some importance, but it didn’t work well. And yes, there’s Deepika Padukone too. Sigh! How can someone be so hot? It’s good to see her in a Bollywood film after a long time. The song is surely a treat for her fans. By the way, there’s Rajkummar Rao too, this film could have been made without him too.
Overall, ‘Raabta’ is a perfect date movie. If you like hard-core romantic films, then this one is a must watch for you.
