The much hyped Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda starrer ‘Sarbjit‘ has unexpectedly failed to bring in more viewers to cinema screens to witness this true heart-wrenching story of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh. As the film completes a week of its release, it could only manage to collect Rs. 19 crore at the Box office.
According to Box Office India, the collections received from Delhi / UP and East Punjab are weak looking at the huge expectations set by this Omung Kumar directorial. Delhi / UP collected Rs. 5.50 crore nett for the week aided by entertainment tax exemption whereas East Punjab grossed only Rs. 3 crore nett.
It is assumed that ‘Sarbjit’ would carry on with its business in Delhi / UP and East Punjab centers after week one, with possibly over 50% business coming in from these two circuits.
Mumbai being is a bigger circuit than Delhi / UP, ‘Sarbjit’ has grossed less here as well.
‘Sarbjit’ narrates the story of Indian convict Sarabjit Singh, who was falsely accused of terrorism and spying in Pakistan, following a jail sentence of 23 years and lastly beaten to death by his jail inmates. The film also stars Richa Chadha and Darshan Kumaar in pivotal parts.
