This year’s National Film Award for Best Actor went to Akshay Kumar, for his stellar performance in ‘Rustom’. While we are all in for Akshay being recognised for his contribution to cinema, many a ones argued that Aamir Khan for ‘Dangal’ deserved it more.
Filmmaker Priyadarshan, who headed the jury, came up with an explanation. According to him, Aamir Khan never attended any award function and didn’t come to receive awards either. Hence, they would rather give it to an actor who would appreciate it more. Now you know the context. They were referring to Aamir’s old antipathy towards award functions.
Well, here comes the main peg. After 16 long years, Aamir will attend an award night! The very prestigious Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Award will be conferred to him as a recognition to his jaw-dropping performance in ‘Dangal’. The last time he stepped into any award ceremony was when ‘Lagaan’ joined the race for OSCAR in the category of Best Film.
We eagerly await the award night now!
