Bollywood movies releasing on festive occassion have an edge over the regular releases. The Khans of Bollywood have divided the festivals between them leaving no opeing for any other star. Aamir Khan has Christmas releases, Salman Khan has Eid and Shah Rukh Khan reserves Diwali for his films.
Akshay Kumar’s last outing Baby that was released on a Republic day was a runaway hit. Recently when the Khiladi was asked if he found Republic day lucky? His tongue in cheek reply was “I can come out any time of the year, why only Republic Day?”
Akki’s upcoming film ‘Airlift’ a true story on the biggest evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait War will also be released close to Republic Day next year. Akshay waving off the co-incidence said, “Yes,festival release is definitely advantageous. It is vacation time, people have money as they get their bonus. So obviously releasing movies during festive occasions help, there is no denying that. Business is good then.”
Akshay further added, “I never get the festival dates for my releases, they go away fast. What to do? The bookings for these festivals are done much in advance, almost two years in advance, then where do I get the dates?”
‘Airlift’ starring Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur will be releasing on January 22, 2016.
