Akshay Kumar not contesting for late Vinod Khanna’s Lok Sabha seat from Punjab

Bollywood is still mourning the demise of veteran actor Vinod Khanna. Khanna, in his later life, had joined the Bhartiya Janta Party and was a member of the Parliament from Gurdaspur, Punjab. His absence is mattering to the political party as much as it does to the Indian film fraternity.

The BJP high commands are reportedly on a lookout for a similarly heavyweight candidate who can take over Khanna’s empty seat. There were rumours of A-lister actor Akshay Kumar acquiring the constituency’s responsibility. However, he quashed the rumours.

“Absolutely not true. I don’t know where these reports are even coming from. I am shooting near Mumbai for my film Padman, blissfully away from the rumour mills,” Akshay told HT, when asked about the truthfulness of such rumours. Rumours also suggested actor Rishi Kapoor was being considered for the same as well. However, he has not made a comment on yet.
