Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra is not just making us proud globally, but is also making things better on a cinematic level, regionally. After foraying into Marathi and Punjabi production, under her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures, she is now all set to produce three regional films, which are expected to release later this year, in Sikkimese, Konkani and Hindi.

The actress who is all about women empowerment has roped in three female directors for the films, which will be for children.

Speaking of the unique subject, Priyanka says, “This is a genre that I have always been excited about and I’m so glad that I am in a position today to do something meaningful in this space. India is a treasure trove of amazing stories that we all have grown up on. These are across all our languages and well entrenched in our memories. Each one resonates because we can relate to them. The films we are producing will find a similar echo in each child’s heart.”

Talking about going for female directors for the movies, PC says, “It has been an enriching experience to work with these incredibly talented women. Each one has created a world, which is magical and draws you right in. I’m truly looking forward to working with my team.”

The Sikkimese film titled ‘Pahuna’ will be directed by Paakhi Tyrewala and will be the first Sikkimese film ever. The movie is about three Nepali children who get separated from their parents, while fleeing the Maoist agitation in Nepal.

The Konkani film, which will also be made in Hindi is titled ‘Little Joe, Kaha Ho?’. Helmed by Suvrata Nasnodkar, the film is a light-hearted story about friendship. Shot entirely in Goa, it is a tribute to legendary cartoonists RK Laxman and Mario Miranda and their work.

The third Hindi venture titled ‘Almaseer’ by Laura Mishra is set against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal, and is a story of friendship and loyalty between a young boy and his dog.
