Singer Arijit Singh, whose song was dropped from Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’, has sung a song penned by former Union Minister Kapil Sibal and composed by Zitar maestro Niladri Kumar, for upcoming Bollywood film ‘Shorgul‘.
Originally Sibal had penned a Qawwali titled ‘Tu hi tu’ for ‘Shorgul’, but while working with Kumar on another project, Sibal decided to pen ‘Tere bina’ as a promotional track for the socio-political movie. It was then that Arijit was roped in to croon the number.
Talking about the song, Sibal said in a statement: “’Tere Bina’ is a track that will create a long lasting impact and touch many lives. I have spent close to nine months in developing this track along with Niladri whose music I’m very fond of.”
“I also convinced him to use his Zitar for the track. I’m also grateful to Arijit Singh for coming on board at such short notice and giving it the right kind of musical treatment. The track is more of a social project that persuades the masses to take a stand on humanity and do whatever it takes to be the torchbearers of change.”
‘Tere bina’, a slow romantic number on love and separation, will feature the lead actress of the film, Turkish supermodel Suha Gezen in an underwater scene.
Underprivileged girl children have joined in Arijit for the song’s chorus. He trained them for it.
The track is special because Niladri Kumar is debuting as a music director with it.
“We have given an opportunity to underprivileged children to showcase their musical talent to the world and started the process of ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world’. On a lighter side, this is the first time I’ll be turning music director for a film and with this track, I wanted to reach out to the younger generation by playing out sounds with which they can identify with better,” Kumar said.
Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, the film, co-directed by P. Singh and Jitendra Tiwari, is based on intolerance and aspires to make the audience contemplate where humanity stands amidst the noise of religious, social, political and economic prejudice.
Starring actors Jimmy Sheirgill, Hiten Tejwani, Eijaz Khan, Ashutosh Rana and Sanjay Suri in the lead, the film is slated to hit the screen on June 10.
