People, who have not yet seen Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’, might find this news piece a spoiler. Well, in the film, there is a scene where a group of masked men molest Varun Dhawan, and then Alia and her friends save him. In the sequence, the actor’s t-shirt is torn, and then the actress gives him her stole to hide his body. The scene has been shown in a very light-hearted way, and the actors in the scene start laughing after the incident takes place.
Well, this surely didn’t go down well with many people, and the film was being bashed for handling the issue of molestation in such a way. However, recently, the director of the film Shashank Khaitan gave a clarification on the sequence.
He stated, “The intent was to show Badri’s character at an all-time low. Emotionally he was down and out. Vaidehi (Alia Bhatt) had stripped him of his ‘mardangi’ when she asked him to call his father and he couldn’t. He was emotionally defenceless and was unable to even protect his physical ‘izzat’. The humour was to comfort and not trivialise the issue.” (Also Read: Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan-starrer ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ is a superhit)
The director further stated that there have been many such scenes used as a tool of satire in movies. “One of the most legendary scenes in recent times is Raju Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’ scene. If taken in the wrong spirit, even that can seem offensive,” he added.
