Somehow, Deepika Padukone perfectly fits in any avatar. Two of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last releases, namely ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ had her playing two drastically different yet equally gorgeous characters. Man, she did amuse us with her impeccable deliverance and how!
However, it is never a cakewalk to don a character with many layers. For ‘Ram-Leela’, Deepika had to essay a diverse set of emotions including conflict between her love interest and her family, the realisation of betrayal and much more. She put her best foot forward, but yet a moment came when she simply broke down on the sets.
This happened because at the last moment, some of her dialogues were changed! (Also Read: Sonu Sood announces biopic on PV Sindhu; will Deepika Padukone come aboard?)
“It was Day 1 of shoot for her. Deepika had broken down because of some last-minute changes in the dialogues. Last-minute changes are a favourite thing with Sanjay sir. We guess he does it to derive a certain spontaneity out of actors and to break their rhythm,” said Garima Wahal in a conversation with TOI, who was one of the writers of the film.
“She’s usually very good with memorising her lines but the change meant completely upsetting her pattern. We sat with her that entire day and worked the lines till she got fully comfortable with that,” she added.
The sequence in discussion was the one when Deepika and Ranveer (Ranveer Singh, who played Ram) come face to face for the first time on behalf of their respective clans and talk about dividing property. It nevertheless turned out to be an extraordinary scene.
You see, the best actors have their tough moments too!
