Actress Deepika Padukone has come aboard as the new brand ambassador of Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS). Deepika, who is constantly vocal about the importance of mental wellness, herself is the founder of The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF). The two organisations are going to join hands and undertake programmes that aim to address issues pertaining to mental health in India.
IPS will be associating with IPS for a nation-wide programme called ‘Together Against Depression’. The programme has already started rolling out in May 2016 and is bringing doctors to join webinars organised by them. The first chapter also had Indian Medical Association lending its support and over 2000 doctors participated. By the end of this financial year, the organisers aim to involve 5,000 doctors in the same programme.
Deepika herself fought depression at a stage in her life and emerged victorious. Since then, she has been pro-active in lending her support to those who are losing it out to depression.
“Mental health of Indian citizens is a large and growing challenge for the country and the more resources we have to combat this issue, the better the chances that those who need help can secure the support they need. The Live Love Laugh Foundation and Indian Psychiatric Society have a shared vision to make mental health a priority for the government and for society at large. I am very pleased to support the activities of the Indian Psychiatric Society in my role as their brand ambassador,” she said.
Deepika is joining as IPS’s brand ambassador on a pro-bono basis.
