‘Dishoom’: Why was Akshaye Khanna missing from the wrap up schedule?

Akshaye Khanna will be seen after a hiatus in Rohit Dhawan’s ‘Dishoom’. Khanna was last seen in ‘Gali Gali Chor Hai’, a 2012 film. The actor, who prefers to keep to himself and is rarely seen socialising in Bollywood circles, will be working with John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez in the upcoming action thriller.

Recently at the wrap-up event of the Sajid Nadiadwala production on Monday at the Mehboob Studios in Bandra, the entire cast along with director Rohit Dhawan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala were present, but one person was conspicuous by his absence and that was Akshaye Khanna. Surprisingly, the makers too are maintaining silence on his role in the film.

Sources reveal, “Akshaye is being kept under wraps for now. It is a deliberate measure in keeping with his image of staying away from the limelight. The makers are making elaborate plans to bring him to the fore when the film’s trailer launches. They want him to take centre stage only then. So for now, they want him to lie low as he normally does. It suits him as well as the makers fine.”

Sources added, “Akshaye plays a gray character in the film and it took a lot of cajoling to get him on board. He did not want to essay the typical Bollywood baddie who the hero keeps bashing up every now and then. His character has a lot of one-liners, the kind that can be seriously funny. He shot for the film during the unit’s Abu Dhabi schedule.”

The trailer of the film will be released on June 1 and the film will be hitting the screens on July 29, 2016.
