On Monday morning, Sonu Nigam, after being woken up by the sound of Azaan, took to Twitter and posted a series of rants, questioning this ‘forced religiousness’. Needless to say, this stirred a controversy and his Twitter handle was soon flooding with reactions, either supporting him or opposing him.
Now, Mumbai Police has reportedly beefed up security outside the singer’s residence in Versova. This is probably because religious controversies, in India, can have undesired consequences!
On Monday, Nigam’s first tweet read as, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India”? (Also Read: Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana react to Sonu Nigam’s controversy)
He went on calling it ‘gundagardi’, while adding, “I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?”.
The singer’s remarks garnered a mixed response from the film and music fraternity, keeping the controversy alive.
