Aditya Chopra was all set to produce Shekhar Kapur’s dream project ‘Paani’ and Sushant Singh Rajput was roped in to play the lead role in the film. However, Adi opted out of the project and now the film has no producer to back it.
Shekhar Kapur, who is currently busy directing a television series on Shakespeare, said, “It is true I am no longer doing the film with Adi (Aditya Chopra). But that doesn’t mean I won’t be doing this film. I’ve lived with the project for many years now.”
He further explained that why Adi opted not to back the film, “See, you have to understand that Adi is not only a producer, he is also a very accomplished filmmaker with extremely independent ideas on cinema. Adi and I are both fiercely individualistic filmmakers. We just couldn’t agree on the way ‘Paani’ should be made.”
Apparently, Adi didn’t agree on the budget that was required to make ‘Paani’.
Shekhar said, “We spent close to two years planning the project together. But it wasn’t meant to be. Not with Adi. But I’ll make ‘Paani’ for sure.”
