Kangana Ranaut

The ‘Queen’ of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut has never minced her words or shied away from being vocal about issues. So now she has opened up on the new proposed law that holds film stars responsible for the brands they endorse. She feels it is not right to hold a celeb liable for a brand that he/she endorses. Speaking on the issue to a popular website, Kangana said, “We are just the face of the brand, but consumer is the king. They have to make their decision and know that it is entirely their responsibility what they choose to buy and invest their resources in.”

The Law and Consumer Affairs Ministry recently accepted the suggestion of a Parliamentary Standing Committee and has imposed a huge penalty of Rs 50 lakh and jail term for repeated offence. Kangana further adds, “We still are very naive when it comes to the product and consumer relationship. People just have to make their own decisions. We (actors) cannot most definitely take responsibility of how these things are manufactured.”

She also talked about the kind of ads that she would avoid being a part of. “It shouldn’t be derogatory to a certain section of consumer. I am against fairness and things that sort of want to propagate a certain group of people or race and then run others down. That is sort of discrimination and is definitely not acceptable,” says Kangana who has endorsed Melange by Lifestyle and a direct-to-home television brand. She was also a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign.
