Aamir Khan

Just a couple of days back, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani slammed International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) 2017 for excluding masterpieces like ‘Dangal’ and ‘Rustom‘. He also said IIFA was non-inclusive towards regional cinema and didn’t have the authority to represent Indian cinema by just awarding Bollywood films.

Considering that ‘Dangal’ was probably the most applauded film of last year, we were equally surprised at it not being nominated for IIFA. But, in a statement, organisers Wizcraft International revealed why they couldn’t nominate ‘Dangal’. (Also Read: Aamir Khan is upset, and the reason is Ranbir and Katrina’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’!)

“So basically, in IIFA, forms are sent to various production houses. They fill those forms up and send it back to us. Those forms are then put out to the industry for voting and from there it becomes a nomination. So, ‘Dangal’ has not sent their entry in. We would love ‘Dangal’ to be a part of it. I think it’s a movie that’s broken all records. We love Aamir Khan and the two little girls. They did a great job. But unfortunately, they didn’t send their entry in. We feel sad,” reads the statement from Andre Timmins.

Not just ‘Dangal’ or ‘Rustom’, but critically acclaimed films like ‘Pink’, ‘Sultan’ and ‘Neerja’ were also not nominated. However, the statement doesn’t discuss any of them.
