Singer Sonu Nigam grabbed headlines after he posted a tweet venting out his frustration over the loudspeakers used during the morning, when ‘Azaan’ is offered. That tweet did not go down well with many people and he was slammed severely. A Maulavi even issued a fatwa against the singer and challenged the singer to shave off his head, which the singer readily did. Many Bollywood stars woke up in support of the singer and stated that he addressed the issue of loudspeakers in general and it was not targeted towards a particular religion. Now, actor Irrfan Khan has spoken about the entire controversy that causes a furore among many religious extremists. (Also Read: Shocking! In a media interaction, Irrfan was asked his take on the Azaan tweet and here’s what he said. Irrfan said, “The loudspeaker matter is a big one. We will have to first think that are we, as a society, really so sensitive when it comes to sound? Are we sensitive about sound in other places? When there is a noisy discotheque near a hospital, do we talk about it then? If somebody has a problem with something then we should tackle all other problems related to the whole matter. In other countries, there are certain restrictions when it comes to car horns, this is because people are very sensitive to sound or noise of any kind. First of all, we will have to figure out what is the actual factor that is causing a certain person so much stress related to the sound of a loudspeaker. And, then also figure out if they have a problem with loudspeakers used for Azaan or elsewhere too.”
Work wise, the actor is currently busy promoting ‘Hindi Medium’ which is helmed by Saket Chaudhary. The movie also stars Pakistani actress Saba Qamar opposite him and will be releasing on May 19, 2017.
