One of the criminals of 2012 Delhi gang rape case was set free after spending 3 years in a correctional home as he was not an adult the time when he committed the crime and as per the law, a juvenile is not entitled to the same amount of punishment like an adult. The ‘minor’ boy walked out freely while Delhi Police allotted to him 10,000 rupees along with a sewing machine to help him be back to the mainstream life.
As soon as the news spread, outrages broke out like fire as the entire country furiously protested against setting this juvenile free, who, apparently, was the most violent among all 4 rapists. What did Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra have to say about it?
“I have always said that I don’t agree with it. It’s a heinous crime. It is unforgivable. I am a law abiding citizen that’s why I will go with whatever the law decides but it was too heinous a crime to be forgiven.” – stated Priyanka.
The Supreme Court, on Monday, had refused to put a stay on the juvenile’s release, stating that it would be requiring another legislative sanction.
