Jackie Chan’s ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ to compete with Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan’s films

Come January 25, and the box office will witness a huge clash between Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Raees’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’. The two movies have an advantage as they release on the Republic Day weekend, but looks like they have some more competition.

As per the recent promos, Jackie Chan’s ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ (KFY) is due to release on January 28 and will be clashing with ‘Raees’ and ‘Kaabil’ at the box office. A source says, “While the the promo clearly indicates the release of ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ (it’s a Saturday), it might just change to a regular Friday to take advantage of the long weekend. While the announcement is China-specific, given India’s position as the hot hub for the global release of major international films, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a day-and-date release here.”

The Chinese film has majorly been shot in India and the makers are looking for a big India release. The movie also features Indian actors like Sonu Sood, Disha Patani and Amyra Dastur.

However, the only problem here are the screens. The source says, “There are 5000-odd prominent screens across the country and these, too, are less for both ‘Raees’ and ‘Kaabil’ to fit in. If at all ‘KFY’ had to arrive on the same date, even on a conservative scale, it would warrant 500-plus more screens.”
