Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan had filed an application to the Bombay High Court seeking the formation of a special investigation team, after the CBI chargesheet stated that the actress’ death was suicidal and homicidal. However, Rabia says that her daughter was murdered by Sooraj Pancholi and didn’t commit suicide as it was stated in the chargesheet.
A bench of justices Ranjit More and Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi ruled out the judgement that there was no need to interfere with the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) probe. This lifts the stay granted on the trial against Sooraj who would now be tried under charges of suicide abetting.
In 2016, Sooraj had filed an intervening application seeking for the stay on the trial to be vacated. Well, the bench also stated that this plea by Pancholi does not survive and hence, it too stands dismissed.
