Vidya Balan

Looks like the makers of Vidya Balan’s ‘Kahaani 2‘ have called for some trouble for themselves! A film distributor has allegedly accused the makers of this film for performing anti-competitive practices to hike the prices of the tickets. Apparently, the makers have stalled the film’s release in several theatres to bring about an artificial spur in the demand of the movie tickets. This means, that ‘Kahaani 2’ will release only in selected theatres and hence, increase in demand of tickets bring about a raise in price of tickets. A petition has been filed by a distributor against the makers for doing so.

As per the petition filed by distributor K Sera Sera Digital Cinema, “The respondents [Pen India Ltd and Bound Script Motion Pictures] have entered into understanding/agreement with its local distributors and select theatres to oust competition and limit/control the supply of movie, to increase demand in selected theatres by prohibiting hundreds of theatres from screening the movie.”

On the contrary, Jayantilal Gada of Pen India informed a leading portal that they have decided to release this film only in selected theatres because they think that only the people who can pay by card would be their immediate audience. He was quoted saying, “We had decided to release it on a smaller scale after we came to a conclusion that people who can pay through cards would watch this movie more than people who prefer to make cash payments.”

The High Court has refused to listen to case on urgent basis and has asked K Sera Sera to first approach Competition Commission of India.
