Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar extended best wishes to legendary music composer Khayyam, who turns 89 on Thursday.
The 86-year-old singer took to Twitter to say happy birthday to the “Umrao Jaan” music director.
“Namaskar. Today is the birthday of talented music composer Khayyam sahab. I give my best wishes to him,” she wrote.
Lata also shared a link of song “Dikhayi Diye Yun Ke Bekhud Kiya”, composed by the veteran composer with her in the vocals.
Khayyam began his musical journey as an assistant to famous Punjabi composer Baba Chishti.
He made his Bollywood debut in 1948 as a part of Sharmaji-Varmaji composer duo with “Heer Ranjha”, but got recognition as solo music director with Raj Kapoor starrer, “Phir Subha Hogi”.
In his over four decade-long career Khayyam gave a musical touch to films like, “Kabhi Kabhie,” “Bazaar,” “Trishul,” “Noorie,” and “Aakhri Khat” with Lata lending her voice in most of the films.
