Singer Mubarak Begum, who had not been well since a long time, passed away last night at her residence in Jogeshwari (Mumbai). The legendary singer was 80-year-old.
A family member stated yesterday, “Mubarak Begum is no more with us. She passed away today at 9:30pm at her residence in Jogeshwari. She was unwell since quite some time.”
Mubarak Begum had sung songs like ‘Woh Na Aayenge Palat Kar’ from ‘Devdas’ (1955), ‘Kabhi Tanhaiyon Mein Hamari Yaad Ayegi’ from ‘Hamari Yaad Aayegi’ (1961), and many others, and had worked with great music directors like S D Burman, Shankar Jaikishan and Khayyam.
In 2011, the Maharashtra government had given a financial aid of Rs. one lakh for her treatment.
