Sanjay Dutt

Actor Sanjay Dutt has been out of one of the biggest controversies of his life. He served five years jail term for possession of arms which were said to be used in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. On July 31, 2007, the TADA court sentenced him to six years of imprisonment under the Arms Act, but it was later on reduced to five years with a fine of Rs 25,000. On Monday, the Bombay High Court questioned the Maharashtra Government to explain as to why was Dutt released so soon from prison, i.e. in Feb, 2016. The fact is he was released eight months earlier due to his good conduct in Pune Yerawada prison.

BK Upadhyay, Additional Director General of Police said, “Since matter is in Honourable HC, prison deptt will submit its reply in the court. No statement in this regard has been issued as the matter is subjudice. Regards.” Later on, the Maharashtra Prison Department submitted a report which stated that Sanjay Dutt’s release was according to the rules and there was no special treatment given to him. For those unknown, the actor was granted 90 days of parole in December 2013 and later again, for 30 days.
