Man who threatened to kill Mahesh Bhatt and his family to be out on bail

Some weeks ago, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt received threat calls from an extortionist demanding a sum of Rs 50 lakh. The caller had stated that if the said amount is not deposited in his bank account, then he would kill his wife Soni Razdan and daughter Alia Bhatt. Reportedly, Mahesh Bhatt received the threat calls on February 26 and it was followed by messages on Whatsapp as the man claimed himself to be a top gang leader. The message read, “If you fail to do so, I will fire several rounds of bullets in your daughter Alia and wife Soni.” Immediately, Bhatt lodged a police complaint and within days the man was nabbed in Lucknow.

But, unfortunately for the Bhatt family, the man named as Sandeep Sahu has now been granted bail. Yes, he will be out of jail very soon on a bail of Rs 20000. His lawyers stated that he cannot be booked for extortion (section 387 of IPC) as there was no grievous hurt or injury of any kind and no transfer of valuable security or money. So, he was only booked for criminal intimidation (section 506 of IPC).

One of the lawyers, Sudha Dwivedi said to a leading daily, “For this section of extortion to be applicable, there should be some transfer of valuable security or money, grievous hurt or injury. However, there is no such thing in the present case. The police in their over zealousness has booked him for a graver offence.” After being out on bail, Sandeep will have to visit police station every Sunday between 2-4 pm.

Sandeep had posed as Babloo Shrivasta and planned the entire thing to repay a loan of Rs 6 lakh that he had borrowed from his relatives. Alia Bhatt was least affected by these threat calls as she said, “I will call my dad and the police brave. They didn’t give me a chance to get worried at all. They took over completely. I am happy that everything has been sorted out now finally, and everyone is safe and happy.”

It’s quite clear that the Bhatt family is pretty strong and are not the ones to be scared by such people.
