Singer-composer Monica Dogra of the band Shaair and Func, who had debuted in Kiran Rao’s ‘Dhobhi Ghat’ will now be seen in a short film. The 12-minute-long short film – “Relapse”, will premiere at the upcoming Los Angeles Film Festival in June. Monica has even done a sexually explicit scene for the film. The movie is about a lesbian relationship.
As per sources, the film features androgynous model Casey Legler who became successful as a male model, despite being born a female. Relapse is the story of two women whose marriage falls apart when Casey’s character decides to undergo a sex change operation to become a man.
Monica said she was thrilled to be a part of a film which portrays the LGBT community (The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community), collectively called the queer population in a realistic light.
“I am acting with Casey who is a real badass. Being a former Olympian swimmer, she would constantly push the boundary in every scene and that helped as a performer. I had to kiss Casey, and it happened very naturally. However, unlike Blue is the Warmest Colour, our film isn’t high on sexual content. But as far as the emotional turmoil and psychology goes, it is definitely at par with the internationally acclaimed French drama.”
The singer was quite candid that Bollywood isn’t ready for a homosexual drama yet.
