My daughter was prettier than you says Neerja Bhanot’s mother to Sonam Kapoor!

Sonam Kapoor is set to present her most awaited film ‘Neerja,’ a story based on the life of a flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who sacrificed her life to save the passengers of a Hijacked flight. On the awful day of September 5, 1986, Neerja headed the team of the crew members of a Pan Am Flight. The plane came to it’s usual halt in Karachi and that’s when four terrorists dressed as security personnel barged in with explosives in hand. The plane was hijacked and the life of the numerous passengers on board was in danger. It was only Neerja’s presence of mind which could save the life of the passengers. Unfortunately, while protecting three kids from the gunfire, the lady was shot with numerous bullets and died.

A heroic story which needs to be told and Sonam will be stepping into the shoes of Neerja. It’s a big responsibility, indeed as the film has an extremely strong story line. Sonam has put in her heart and soul for this film. She also met Neerja’s mother Rama Bhanot to know how Neerja was in the real life. But she was taken aback when Neerja’s mother could strike resemblance between her daughter and Sonam. In a recent making of ‘Neerja’ video, fashionista revealed that the first thing that Neerja’s mother said when she met Sonam was that ‘Yeh toh meri laaddo hai.’ (She is like my daughter) but then she quickly added that ‘but my daughter was prettier.’ Indeed, these are the most touching words that could be said by a mother who lost the apple of her eye to a terrorist attack. Sonam revealed that she was left stunned after she met Neerja’s mother.

Shabana Azmi would be playing the role of Rama Bhanot in the film. ‘Neerja,’ helmed by Ram Madhvani, is set to hit the theatres on February 19, 2016.
