Renowned filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor is back with another heart-melting story; this time of sibling love. ‘Dhanak’ as he has named it, Kukunoor’s upcoming story will narrate the tale of a little boy and his sister who set off from rural Rajasthan to meet their favourite superstar. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, we asked him what he made out of the Censor Board’s clash with ‘Udta Punjab’ and its makers. Here’s what he had to say.
“Ideally, in a democracy, there should be no censorship. But if there is literally no censorship, it would create other problems. There might be a few fanatics who would use this opportunity and preach wrong things. So that ‘ideal’ situation is not possible. But as an artist, I do not support any kind of censorship”, he said.
While censorship is necessary to keep films free of extremism, fundamentalism and other harmful and discriminatory content, it must not cause a curse on freedom of speech and expression. The restrictions on ‘Udta Punjab’ has given rise to wide outrage from all corners.
‘Dhanak’ which stars Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria as the little protagonists, is releasing on June 17 worldwide.
