Actor Om Puri, who recently received a major backlash after making derogatory remarks about Indian soldiers, visited martyr Nitin Yadav’s (BSF soldier) family at a village in Etawah, UP.
Puri celebrated his 66th birthday on Tuesday and chose the day to visit Yadav’s family for the purpose of ‘atonement’ for his previous comment on Indian soldiers. He sobbed uncontrollably and was heard murmuring the word ‘maafi’ (forgiveness). He asked Yadav’s family to forgive him and accept him as a part of them.
“My comments are beyond forgiveness. Had I uttered those words in any other country I would have been executed. I seek forgiveness and request you to accept me as a part of your family,” he said while he paid a floral tribute to Nitin, who gave away his life for the country.

Earlier, during a TV show, an angry Puri had burst out saying, “Who had asked the soldiers to join the army? Who told them to pick up guns?”
Puri’s spiritual mentor Yogi Vageesh suggested that he goes for atonement. The actor himself, later, deeply regretted and apologised for what he said.
