Twinkle Khanna’s latest book ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’ has a story about a man who invented a machine to produce sanitary napkins at a far less cost. In a country like India where a high number of women, especially in rural parts do not have access to sanitary napkins, this is a commendable effort.
Twinkle is venturing into production with her banner ‘Mrs Funnybones Movies’ with ‘Padman’, a film based on the story. The actress-turned-producer and entrepreneur is boldly vocal, when it comes to social justice and equal rights of women. Time and again, through her pen, Twinkle has questioned why there is so much of unnecessary inhibition about menstruation.
“It is a subject I believe in. It’s a subject that I have written extensively about. Menstruation is a taboo not just in our country but all over the world. It’s not something which is openly discussed and I really don’t see the logic in it. It’s a biological function, why should there be shame around it. That is what I am trying and hoping to describe through Padman,” she told TOI.
‘Padman’ will be directed by R Balki and has Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor playing pivotal roles.
