Priyanka Chopra: I think regional cinema doesn’t get the support it should

Actress Priyanka Chopra who has already carved a successful career path in Bollywood and in the West is now venturing into regional cinema in the capacity of a producer. PeeCee has produced three regional movies in Marathi, Punjabi and Bhojpuri.

Recently, while speaking to a leading daily, PeeCee spoke about the scope of regional cinema and it’s underrated for some reason. Said PeeCee, “I started with regional cinema because I found some really interesting scripts that I wanted to make. I think regional cinema doesn’t get the support it should. It’s a massive industry.”

She further added, “I am a Punjabi, I was born in Bihar, and I’ve been living in Maharashtra. I backed a Bhojpuri film, a Punjabi film and a Marathi film, as I found some really amazing scripts. But that doesn’t mean I won’t produce films in Hindi or English. I am going to produce projects here (USA); I am going to produce films in India too.”

On the work front, Priyanka who is currently busy with the second season of the hit American TV show ‘Quantico’, will be making her big screen Hollywood debut opposite Dwayne Johnson in ‘Baywatch’.
