Priyanka Chopra, with her production house, is doing her best to back regional films with strong content and powerful performances. After producing a Marathi, a Punjabi, a Bhojpuri and a Telugu film, Priyanka is now set to invest in a bi-lingual project. The Marathi-Bengali flick will focus on a specific portion of Rabindranath Tagore’s love life.
A 17-year-old Tagore, whose poetic senses were just at inception that time, had fallen in love with Nalini, the daughter of Atmaram Pandurang, a social reformer and also a co-founder of Bombay Natural History Society. During his visit to Bombay, Tagore stayed at his place and cupid struck. However, his father Maharshi Debendranath Tagore never approved of this relationship and their love died futile. The film is being titled ‘Nalini’ after the lady’s name, and will be dubbed in Hindi as well.
“It was a platonic love story and the film will narrate it from the point of view of a young student, who visits modern-day Santiniketan and sees a picture of Annapurna captioned ‘Nalini’,” director Ujjwal Chatterjee told Mumbai Mirror. Chatterjee’s wife Sagarika has penned the film’s script.
The casting is in process and the film is set to go on floors by October.
