BJP MLA Anil Gote today said Maharashtra government should give the state’s highest award, ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’, to superstar and “son of the soil” Rajinikanth.
Raising the issue in the Lower House, Gote said Rajinikanth, born Shivaji Rao Gaikwad in Kolhapur district, went to Tamil Nadu in search of a career and carved out a demi-god status among film buffs.
The release of his latest movie ‘Kabali’ in 8,000 screens around the world is proof of his stature in Indian cinema, Gote said.
The Assembly should also pass a resolution, asking the Centre, to give ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Rajinikanth, the MLA added.
