Instances of violence on students at Delhi University have made to the headlines a number of times in past few days. All the incidents of unrest are allegedly initiated by Akhil Bharat Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students’ wing of BJP.
Latest, a video by Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of a Kargil martyr and a student of DU, has gone viral. In the video, she explains not only the violent chaotic created by ABVP, but also goes on to advocate in favour of international peace. Her recent video wherein she explains her intentions through placards, has gone viral. However, it has been misconstrued by many who just read one placard that read “Pakistan did not kill my father, war killed him” and berated her for that, calling her ‘anti-national’.
Actress Swara bhaskar, who is known to be vocal about social and political injustices, too has spoken up on the same. (Also Read: Shocking! Adult scenes from Swara Bhaskar’s ‘Anaarkali of Aarah’ were leaked online)
“As a student of Delhi University and JNU, I just want to say in clear terms that in any context, violence is not justifiable. You can give it any kind of explanation later -you can call it nationalism, or you can call it any other emotion but the fact is that raising a hand on someone, due to any protest, sloganeering, contention is wrong. Anyone, any group in the society should sort out their disagreements in a discussion. And we are seeing [such incidents] this time and again,” Swara said.
“As an actor, as an artist, we are constantly vulnerable to this. We just witnessed an attack on Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir. Now, we are seeing this attack. This is a concerning situation. In any society, if common man can so easily get violent, then it is shame for the entire society. Give it whatever name you want to give, but the fact is that it is wrong,” she added.
We do agree with you Swara.
