Director Neeraj Ghaywan and actress Richa Chadha were left teary-eyed when their Indian film “Masaan” got a five-minute-long standing ovation at the ongoing 68th Cannes International Film Festival here.
Richa, who last attended the Cannes gala for “Gangs of Wasseypur”, took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express her feelings following the screening of “Masaan” on Tuesday night.
“Got teary at the 5 minute-long standing ovation. Thank you everyone. @ghaywan, first thanks to you,” Richa posted on Tuesday Night, along with a video of the applause.
The film was screened in the official UnCertain Regard section at the Cannes gala.
Sharing his proud moment at Cannes, Ghaywan tweeted: Broke down at the unstoppable applause. Thanks everyone! Missed you so much @anuragkashyap72, editor @nitin_baid, DP @avinasharun20! #Masaan.”
“I am buried under so many mentions. This is going to take a while. But thank you each and everyone for all the love for #Masaan (sic),” he added.
Set in Varanasi, “Masaan” follows the stories of four people from a small town and how they fit in to the moralities. It also features Shweta Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra and Vicky Kaushal.
Co-producer Guneet Monga of Sikhya Entertainment told IANS over Facebook: “The response to ‘Masaan’ has been very overwhelming. It was a powerful moment to experience, where everyone was incredibly moved in the theatre. I feel it is a blessing to be part of this beautiful film.”
