Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt are one of the most lovable on-screen pairs for this present generation of actors. After working together in ‘Student of the Year’ and ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania,’ their mentor Karan Johar had planned to repeat this magical pair in ‘Shuddhi.’ But it seems that some unfortunate bad jinx is behind the filmmaker.
‘Shuddhi’ is considered to be the most ambitious project for producer Karan Johar who had begun its work in early 2013. After speculations of Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan playing the lead, few months ago Karan took to twitter confirming that he had signed his prodigies Varun and Alia for the project. But due to the significant delays at the scripting stage only, it seems that this Varun-Alia starrer is in the danger zone of getting shelved.
Sources say, “No work has been done on the film. It has gone through many casting changes and every time a new actor came on board, the script had to be reworked to suit their personality. Apart from that, KJo wasn’t too confident about handing the directorial baton to Karan Malhotra since the latter’s last film (‘Brothers’) didn’t do well.”
Recently, Shashank Khaitan who had directed this pair in his debut venture ‘Humpty Sharma’ have apparently signed them for his next movie. This project is expected to go on floors in the month of May under the production of Karan Johar. This seems to be another alert for the curtains coming down on ‘Shuddhi.’
“Varun, who had stopped signing films to focus on ‘Shuddhi’, is now scouring for challenging scripts, indicating that the film has been shelved. He is now busy with other projects — his brother Rohit Dhawan’s ‘Dishoom’ to be followed by a gangster flick. Alia, too, will shortly begin shooting with Shah Rukh Khan for Gauri Shinde’s next,” added the source.
Certainly, the dream of Karan Johar to make a huge canvas scale movie like ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ is still a dream. Hope it materializes soon.
