Everyone is psyched up about ‘Padmavati’, and for good reason. Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone are coming together for this period drama based on the legend of Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this one is going to a marvelous splendour of cinema, for sure. However, we are mostly interested in Ranveer Singh, who plays the character of Alauddin Khilji. This is probably the first time in his career, that he is playing a character so dark and grey. Recently, we came across certain buzz, as to how the actor is preparing for his role in ‘Padmavati’.

If sources are to believed, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has given Ranveer books that will give him an insight into the minds of various dark rulers, including Hitler. Apparently, SLB wants Ranveer’s mind like a clean slate, devoid of all the roles he has played, before he delves into the character of Sultan Alauddin Khilji, who was a through and through evil ruler, with no conscience.

“Ranveer is prepping his body language, mannerisms, diction and physique. He is holed up in his Goregaon apartment and has himself off from people. For many hours in the day, he transforms into Khilji working on his dialogues and diction,” reveals a source.

The source further added, “From intense workouts, to reading, research and diction training, Ranveer is going the extra mile to become Alauddin Khilji. After Befikre, he had to build up a different kind of body for Padmavati which is more powerful and big built. He works out for almost three hours every day. His benchmark to play this iconic, villainous historical character is very high; and therefore, this has become the toughest role that he has ever tackled!”
