Yesteryear actor Sumita Sanyal passed away at the age of 71. She breathed her last in her Kolkata house at Deshapriyo Park this afternoon. The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee offered her condolences on Twitter. She tweeted, “Saddened at the passing of veteran actress Sumita Sanyal. My condolences to her family, friends and fans.”
Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee also tweeted, “Saddened to hear about the demise of the veteran actress Sumita Sanyal May her soul rest in peace.”
The actress is best remembered for her role in the 1970 movie ‘Anand’ opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. She has also been a part of movies like ‘Mili’, ‘Guddi’, ‘Mere Apne’ and ‘Aashirwad’. Apart from that, she has been a part of around 50 Bengali movies.
She is survived by her husband, film editor Subodh Roy and a son. Our condolences and prayers with her family members.
