The plot of ‘Time Machine’
Reportedly, 'Time Machine' was based on the Hollywood film 'Back to the Future', a sci-fi project made with the theme of time-travel in year 1985.
Aamir Khan, the one to time-travel
Aamir Khan's character was to go back in time from the period of 1990's to that of 1960's to meet his future parents before they ever met each other.
Aamir Khan and Raveena Tandon’s romantic pairing
Raveena Tandon was signed on to play the romantic interest of Aamir Khan's character. 'Time Machine' was perhaps their first film paired together on screen. Later on, they went on to do films like 'Parampara' and 'Andaz Apna Apna'.
The ‘future’ parents of Aamir Khan
Veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Rekha were playing the parts of Aamir Khan's onscreen parents. Aamir and Nasseruddin went on to work together in 'Sarfarosh'. However, never again did Aamir get a chance to share screen space with the ageless diva Rekha. Keeping our fingers crossed for that.
The other players of ‘Time Machine’
Apart from them, the film starred veteran actors like late Amrish Puri who was going to play the main villain, whereas late actor-filmmaker Vijay Anand was reportedly playing a scientist who invents this time machine. Gulshan Grover was also playing a pivotal character in the film.
Plans of revival?
In year 2008, reports suggested that Shekhar Kapur was making an attempt to revive the film with a new cast. Some sources had even said that he was keen on casting Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role but hadn't approached him till then. But, till today nothing seems to be materialised for this science-fiction film.
Aamir Khan, just the name is enough to make the film a blockbuster, in the current Bollywood scenario. The actor who is popularly known as Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist can go to any lengths for the betterment of his film. And we can quote a very fine example of the same. Did you know that the actor had waived off his entire fee for a film made in early 90’s, so that the film could be released. Sadly, even then the film could not be completed. Titled ‘Time Machine’, it was a movie by none other than director Shekhar Kapur. This film was Shekhar’s next big sci-fi project after ‘Mr. India’ (1987). But, it was subsequently shelved due to financial constraints, and was never completed or released. It’s been exactly 25 years now since the time it was shelved, after it was completed almost 75% in the year 1992.
