When Anurag Kashyap confided about his concern for daughter Aaliyah Kashyap’s mental health

On Thursday night, Anurag Kashyap celebrated the engagement of daughter Aaliyah Kashyap with fiancé Shane Gregoire amidst pomp and show. The couple and the filmmaker were surrounded by their close friends and family. It was a night of celebration and Anurag and Aaliyah again showed how close knit is their bonding.

While their bonding is quite amazing, we witnessed it first hand when Anurag spoke about his daughter in a conversation with us earlier this year. When the filmmaker was promoting his last film Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat, he indulged in a chat with us. When we mentioned his daughter, he beamed like a proud father.

Anurag is used to being in the limelight for good, bad or ugly reasons. However, Aaliyah hasn’t chosen showbiz as her professional field, yet she also gets under media scrutiny just for being Anurag’s daughter. When asked if it concerned him as a parent, Anurag had said to us, “You know her mental health worries me a lot, whenever she struggles with it. But the whole point of it is, her thing is like, ‘I have a tough time explaining to you that’s why am I happy with being on YouTube. Why I don’t need to have a career as per your definition, of what a career should be or, why did I drop out of college and all you need to be concerned about is whether I am happy or not. I’m happy yeah and I’m self-dependent,’ and that makes me feel proud.”

So, when prodded if her career choice ever bothered him, Anurag had said, “I’m very happy with that, really happy that she is the person who knows (what she wants). I was a person very lost compared to her when I was that age. She knows how to hold her own and she is also transparent and honest. She also doesn’t use any filters like I did.”

In May this year, Shane had proposed Aaliyah in a dreamy way. And on Friday night, the couple had their official engagement party. Many celebrity guests attended the function including Aaliyah’s friends Suhana Khan, Alaya F, Khushi Kapoor, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Vedang Raina, Palak Tiwari and many more. Even Anurag’s ex-wife Kalki Koechlin made an appearance with her baby.
