The versatile actress of the entertainment industry Tabu is celebrating her 52nd Birthday today. On the occasion, heartfelt wishes poured in for the actress from all corners. In a career spanning over three decades, the actress has a diverse filmography which proves she is the epitome of versatility. From Maachis to Kalapani, Astitva, Chandni Bar, Maqbool, Haider, and Cheeni Kum, Tabu has received massive praise for her ability to play diverse roles. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Tabu reflected on her career and revealed what keeps her relevant to date. She also recalled people thought her career was over when she took up unconventional roles.
Tabu on staying relevant for over three decades
Unlike many mainstream Indian artists, Tabu showed the courage to experiment and constantly redefine herself as an actor. She ruled the box office in 2022 with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2.
Talking about how she manages to stay relevant, the actress shared, “I have been fortunate to a large extent because I stayed in touch with work all the time. I also did movies and worked with some great directors who kept redefining me as an actor. So I think that is the most important part of a creative person or their relevance in their field. And so films like Maqbool, Haider or Khufiya, this whole line of films they have just helped me to keep redefining myself because every film has a different character and something new to explore.”
Tabu on taking up unconventional offers
The diva debuted in Bollywood with Pehla Pehla Pyaar opposite Rishi Kapoor but rose to fame with Vijaypath. She eventually moved away from just being an eye candy in a movie to playing some
unconventional roles.
Reflecting on how everybody convinced her to refuse such roles, Tabu recalled, “They were like it’ll be the end of your career. But I didn’t believe them because my convictions were something else. Actually, it didn’t even matter to me. I’m not even saying in a way that ‘mujhe bola tha aisa’ but abhi yaad aata hai abhi bola tha. I was too sure and convinced about what I’m doing and what I want to do and what I’m going to get out of it.”
Happy-Birthday-Tabu
On the work front, birthday girl Tabu will next be seen in Rhea Kapoor’s The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
