Shah Rukh Khan and his late father Mir Taj Mohammed Khan

There are many iconic films in Indian cinema that leave a deep impact on our mind. One of the gems is late filmmaker K Asif’s magnum opus ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ (1960). Many Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone and others have heaped praises for the film in a documentary made on this epic historical drama.

But there’s one superstar who feels that he has a deep emotional attachment to this film and it’s none other than Shah Rukh Khan. Not many would know, but SRK owns the original camera on which this epic film was shot. Reportedly, this film camera is kept on the first floor of his house Mannat.

In one of his interactions with media long, long ago, Shah Rukh Khan revealed that his late father Mir Taj Mohammed Khan was sacked for being a bad actor just after finishing a day’s work on ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. Surprised or shocked? The director of the film even suggested that he must go and give birth to an actor.

SRK reminisced, “My father was selected for a Pathan’s role and he performed so badly that Asif saab threw him out of the film. My father would say to me when I was small that Asif saab told him to go back home and give birth to an actor.” [sic]

Life truly comes a full circle, doesn’t it? Who would have imagined that SRK’s hard work would turn him into a superstar, and that he would be the chosen one to be the narrator in the documentary made on this same epic film. The documentary film made on ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ was also produced under SRK’s own banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.

It is now fathomable how Shah Rukh Khan is so attached to this film.
