Late playback singer Kishore Kumar is considered to be one of the most eminent personalities whose presence is still missed in the industry. The talented singer who was also a successful actor, filmmaker, music composer and lyricist, had a magical voice that people could connect with instantly.
In his illustrious career, the singer had successfully turned the voice behind many popular Bollywood actors like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and others. But, there was one actor who was devoid of this magical playback voice (for some time). And it was none other than actor Mithun Chakraborty.
It was in the late 70s when Kishore Kumar had married actress Yogeeta Bali in 1976 (his third wife) after the demise of his second wife, actress Madhubala in 1969. But, it was heard that Yogeeta had started dating Mithun after they met on the sets of film ‘Khwab’ (1980). It is said that Yogeeta, who was in love with Mithun, decided to leave Kishore Kumar for him. Kishore and Yogeeta parted ways after just two years of their marriage in 1978. Perhaps, Kishore Kumar was hurt, and he decided to stop singing for Mithun who then married Yogeeta in the year 1979. But as they say time heals everything, Kishore eventually buried the hatchet and went on to do playback for Mithun in his films like ‘Surakshaa’ and ‘Waqt Ki Awaz’.
Ironically, it was Mithun Chakraborty’s song ‘Guru Guru’ from ‘Waqt Ki Awaz’ which turned out to be the last recorded song of late Kishore Kumar with singer Asha Bhosle. He died on the same day after the recording was over, a day before his elder brother, late Ashok Kumar’s birthday.
Quiet, resonant, and creative, he can be seen immersed in his own world, and puts in his heart and soul into the one passion that he has, Bollywood. His line for survival? Feel happy to be a part of it.
