Akshaye Khanna too had made his debut with ‘Border’ and ‘Himalay Putra’ in 1997. For few years, he maintained stability in films, but then he vanished, and last year made a comeback with ‘Dishoom’. Though the actor failed to make a big name in the industry, we cannot ignore the fact that he is one of the most talented actors of Bollywood.
Rani Mukerji’s debut
Like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukerji too had made her debut in Bollywood with the film ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’. The film was not commercially successful, but Rani’s acting prowess made her the queen of Bollywood. She completes 20 years in the industry this year, and reportedly, Rani, who is on a maternity break, is all set to be back on the big screen this year.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s debut
Well, the gorgeous beauty completes 20 years in the industry. Aishwarya Rai had made her debut in Bollywood in 1997 with the film ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’. Then there was no looking back for her. Today Ash is one of the most successful actresses of Bollywood, and still kills us with her stunning looks.
‘Judwaa’
Yes, even we can’t believe that it’s been 20 years since we saw Salman Khan-starrer ‘Judwaa’. The film also marked the debut of Rambha, but she failed to make a mark in the industry. And now, after 20 years, the sequel of the film has been planned starring Varun Dhawan in the lead role.
‘Judaai’
A greedy wife gets her husband married to another woman just for money. A really different concept like this did wonders at the box office. ‘Judaai’ had something new to offer. However, after ‘Judaai’, Sridevi went on a break. She made her big screen comeback in 2012 with ‘English Vinglish’, and now after five years in 2017, she will be seen in a film titled ‘Mom’. Well, when it comes to Urmila Matondkar, she is happily married now and Anil Kapoor, along with his children, is ruling Bollywood.
‘Ishq’
‘Ishq’ is one of the best romantic-comedies ever made in Bollywood, and also one of the best multi-starrers. We still love the film when we watch it on TV, and the best part is all the actors of the film are still making a mark in the industry after 20 years.
‘Hero No. 1’
Govinda was one of the most loved actors in the 90s. He was seen in ‘Hero No. 1’ in 1997. The movie was a hit at the box office. But, then after few years, Govinda’s charm started fading and there were a line of flops. However, this year, he will be making a comeback with a film titled ‘Aa Gaya Hero’. Let’s see if the word ‘Hero’ will work in his favour this time or not.
‘Gupt’
While there were vamps in Bollywood films, not many films had a female antagonist. But, then in 1997 release ‘Gupt’, we had a proper female antagonist. Kajol played a negative role in the film, and co-incidentally, now after 20 years the actress will be once again seen playing a negative character in Tamil flick ‘VIP 2’.
‘Dil To Pagal Hai’
While there were films like high-on content films like ‘Aastha’, 1997 also saw a beautiful romantic flick about youth titled ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’. The Yash Chopra-directorial was a dance-romance, and was loved by everyone.
‘Aastha: In the Prison of Spring’
Basu Bhattacharya’s ‘Aastha: In the Prison of Spring’ starring Rekha and Om Puri is one of the most controversial films made in Bollywood. The movie shows the journey of a married woman who turns into a prostitute. The movie is famously known for its explicit love making scenes. In 1997, the movie was way ahead of its time, and though it was critically and commercially acclaimed, moviegoers were not much happy with Rekha’s role.
