Did you know Hema Malini was AGAINST the idea of marrying Dharmendra?

The love story of veteran actors Hema Malini and Dharmendra is definitely iconic and there is no denying that. Previously in 1957, Dharmendra had married Prakash Kaur and they had four kids, Bobby, Sunny, Vijeeta and Ajeeta. However, he fell in love with Hema Malini later on and he even converted to Islam to marry her. And now, in an earlier interaction, Hema Malini made some surprising revelations and said that she never intended to marry the Sholay actor.

Hema Malini reveals details about her marriage with Dharmendra

Earlier, Hema Maini has confessed that she never intended to marry Dharmendra. In a chat with Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Hema Malini shared that she was against the idea of marrying Dharmendra. When the actress was asked about the reasons for the same, Hema Malini said, “I never bothered in the beginning, not at all. Anyone can say that he’s a very good-looking man, doesn’t mean you have to marry that person. So, I continued working with him, but not at all with any intention that I’m going to marry this person.“

She added, “Somewhere I used to think, if at all I have to marry, I will marry somebody like him. Not him, definitely not. But it happened, so you can’t help it.”

During the chat, Hema Malini also recalled the time when she had asked Dharmendra to marry her out of the blue, to which the Sholay actor agreed. She said, “Naturally, no parents would like this kind of a marriage. But it was difficult to decide anything else for me. I was quite close to him, we were together for so long. And to suddenly think of somebody else to marry, I don’t think it is right. So, I called him and I said, ‘You’ll have to marry me now’. He said, ‘Yeah, I’ll marry you’. So that is how it happened.”

Speaking of Dharmendra’s workfront, the veteran actor was recently seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He starred alongside Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Shabana Azmi among others. The Karan Johar directorial received quite a positive response from the netizens and turned out to be one of the most loved movies.
