Within the realm of loneliness
Om wanted to sort things out amicably so the separation does not affect Ishaan. But Nandita accused him of domestic violence and took the matter to the police and registered a complaint. Om Puri was separated from his second wife in 2013 and led a lonely life thereafter.
The separation
Nandita had reportedly asked for two years to prepare before the separation. It was also alleged that Om Puri was frequently visiting Seema at her Oshiwara residence. He had always been in touch with her even after his marriage with Nandita. On the other hand, Seema didn't marry all these years. She had forgiven Om and he had expressed his desire to marry her again. They could not marry, but were going strong. Om continued to meet his son. On his 14th birthday, Om reportedly wrote a letter for Ishaan, but Nandita and Ishaan had doubts of it was actually written by him.
The binding factor
Despite their differences, Om and Nandita remained together for the sake of their son Ishaan. Om was very attached to Ishaan and found it very difficult to take a quick decision. In due course of time, his anger cooled down, but he was indignant again when the book was released. Om was upset about the fact that he confided in Nandita, who in turn revealed all in her book with real names. His admiration for the women in his life didn't really come across in his biography, but he decided to forget everything for the sake of his son.
The return of the ex
In the meantime, Om's ex-wife Seema Kapoor re-entered his life. In an interview, Om had attributed their separation to lack of communication eventually leading to misunderstandings. While introspecting into what went wrong, Om later said, "she was very young, 10 years younger to me. She was not outspoken, she couldn't convey what she felt uncomfortable about. A misunderstanding developed. It was unfortunate that we separated".
The bits that tarnished his image…
In the biography that Nandita wrote, it was revealed that Om had sex with his maid at the age of 14. It further uncovered the fact that he had sexual relationship with a caretaker of his ailing, old father. Om felt this tarnished the image of the actor in front of his fans.
Love again crept in, so did differences
Journalist-writer Nandita Puri entered Om's life when she interviewed him during the filming of Roland Joffe's 'City of Joy' in Kolkata. The two got married few years down the line. While Nandita was urban-bred, well-educated, bright and extroverted, Om was a small town boy. Om and Nandita Puri's differences came out in the open after his wife wrote his biography 'Unlikely Hero: The Story of Om Puri'. Om was offended with the fact that Nandita had exposed his relationships in a way which would be disrespectful to the women involved.
The first time Cupid struck
Om Puri knew Seema Kapoor (sister of actor Annu Kapoor) for more than a decade, though they lived in different cities. Seema grew attached to Om and proposed to him. She probably didn't expect a rejection. Om told her, "I admire you, I am fond of you but I'm involved with another girl". This did break Seema's heart, but they eventually got married in 1990. Tragically, the marriage lasted not more than an year.
